On July 11 and 12 2017 a short earthquake swarm happened in the focal area Nový Kostel and Luby, NW-Bohemia, Czech Republic, only a few kilometers away from the German-Czech border. After manual routine analysis the two largest events reached local magnitudes of 3.1 and 3.2. The actual manual analysis comprises 41 additional events with magnitudes ranging from 1.5 to 2.6 during both days. 42 out of these 43 events were automatically located by the SeisComP3 monitoring system implemented at Leipzig University, Germany. The automatically determined magnitudes range from 1.4 to 3.5.

Being a member of the working group „Seismoverbund Mitteldeutschland“, the Leipzig University provides an automatic system for detecting, locating and alerting in case of potentially perceptible earthquake. The implemented SeisComP3 system was in particular configured and tuned for local conditions in Central Germany by gempa GmbH. In this way the quality of automatically determined P and S onset times could be improved. For association of seismic phases the modules „scautopick“ and „scanloc“ were optimized. By specific tuning the accuracy of event location was increased and the number of false alerts decreased.

The comparision between manual and automatic analysis demonstrates the achieved capacity of our automatic monitoring system.
